About a year ago I was sitting in a conference, and heard the speaker say that every family should have a vision or mission statement that is unique to them.
At first it seemed like a busy work exercise, but as I have thought more and more about it I realized that knowing this is huge.
Let me explain:
First, a family vision/mission statement helps you determine what your family is about, why you exist, and what your purpose is.
Second, it helps with prioritizing the many activities and opportunities, so you can know what is truly important for you.
Third, it helps to keep everyone in your family on the same page when making decisions.
Our family vision/mission statement is:
We exist to develop meaningful relationships with those around us and to honor God in what we say and do.
This picture by VickieWadeFineArt reminds me of our mission statement and how we're called to walk through life with other people by our side.
What is your vision/mission statement? Please post your thoughts in the comments.

Great idea and beautiful picture you chose.
ReplyDeleteTo be who we each are created to be In Christ Jesus, to follow Him, to trust Him, to share His Joy, and to press on to apprehend that for which He apprehended each one of us...to live in Him, to choose His will, not ours, step by step, day by day, to take care of what He has given us, to shine His light, to love each other and see each other as Christ loves and sees us.
ReplyDeleteWhat a Wonderful blog post CK! And the blog page looks beautiful :D
Hmmm! Never thought of doing that. I guess now I have older children our statement would need to be one for me and Pete as a couple. Maybe something like to glorify God, to be a place of safety and encouragement for our friends and family.
ReplyDeleteLove your simple statement and picture. You are a great inspiration and breath of fresh air!
ReplyDeleteWell, I'll give this some thought. I have been to several of those team building conferences myself but never thought of making one for my family, or like Julie said it; my husband and I. I'll keep you posted, maybe post it to my blog. I think you started something. Thank You
ReplyDeleteWow...I don't think we have one actually. I remember at my graduation the speaker told us that each of us as people are a brand. How do we want to be known by others? That stuck with me, I'm sure this family mission statement will stick with me in the same way
ReplyDeleteCK - that is a great mission statement! I am a mission statement nut when it comes to businesses. If I were to make one for myself it would be "bloom where I am planted". To be all that God created me to be wherever He leads me.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your comments on the family vision/mission statement. Please keep them coming. This is such an important topic for all of us, and I would love to hear more thoughts from you as well as you go down this journey of a family vision/mission statement.
